about

Greenhorn was born from a dream of slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and creating the kind of escape Rob and Michelle always searched for while living in Johannesburg.

The name Greenhorn traditionally means a newcomer to an area — a fitting name for two people who arrived in the Magaliesburg countryside with a vision to create something special. What they found here was space to breathe, beautiful landscapes, incredible birdlife, and the inspiration to build a place where others could experience the same sense of peace and creativity.

Michelle, an artist and potter, spent over a decade running a busy pottery studio in Johannesburg before bringing her passion for art and handmade living to Greenhorn. Today, she has created a beautiful art and pottery studio where guests are encouraged to slow down, get inspired, and explore their own creativity surrounded by nature.

Rob can usually be found in one of the bird hides or along the walking trails, always happy to share his knowledge of the local birdlife and the natural beauty of the area. Together, they have created more than just luxury cottages — they have created a place to escape, create, unwind, and feel at home in nature.
